Tissue Expansion for the Paraspinal Soft Tissue Reconstruction in Lumbar Spine Fracture-Dislocation -A Case Report-

Abstract
Skin graft, local or distant flap and free flap have been used for soft tissue reconstruction. But these methods are required skillful operation techniques and results were obtained unsatisfactory cosmetically and functionally. As early as 1905,
attempts at distraction technique for bone lengthening resulted in concomittant, but unrecognized, expansion of soft tissue.
Recently Neumann and Radovan have developed reconstructive surgery by use of tissue expander, which provides with more complete in thickness of soft tissue, sensation, texture and decreases morbidity of donor site by use of local surrounding
tissue. The
authors report a patient treated with tissue expander for large soft tissue defect on the lower back due to paraspinal muscle necrosis after lumbar spine fracture/dislocation.
